Rest in Pieces: Jenga-ish Ridiculous Roommate Roleplaying

Created by Pete "The Landlord" Petrusha at Imagining Games

Fill the shoes of a fed-up deadbeat roommate that happens to share a cramped studio apartment with none other than the Grim Reaper! What can go wrong, does go wrong in this ridiculous game about bad days and difficult roommates. Rest in Pieces is a dark comedy tabletop roleplaying game inspired by the misadventures, cartoon logic, and over-the-top characters of slacker sitcoms like The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy, the Regular Show, Rick & Morty, and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Plays with a Two-Color Jenga-ish Block Tower and a unique deck of 108 cards that teach the rules, describe characters, and create overarching problems. With 14 unique problem scenarios to rile up your roommates, you’ll be ready to play in minutes! 3-6 Players (With GM), 1 Hour, Mature Themes for Immature Play *Contains suggestive themes, crude humor, and strong language.

Rest in Pieces is ALMOST here!

DHL has finally given me an estimated date of arrival (they had some employee turnover) and your games and goodies should ship (from me to you) in the second half of September. There's a new Status indicator when you review your pledges on Kickstarter. We'll be marking your order Shipped when it's on the way.

If you need to update your address or just want to add a Death Plushie or Expansion Pack before it arrives, please visit https://rip.backerkit.com/hosted_preorders or email me at [email protected] and I'll resend your email survey.

Save Room for Dinner!

I'm super excited to announce that our team at Imagining Games is creating a tabletop roleplaying game for the New York Times Best Seller, CHEW, based on the Award-Winning Image comic series!

I like food AND RPGS!

Set in a world where chicken is illegal after a catastrophic outbreak of the bird flu killed over 100 million people, the U.S. Food & Drug Administration is now the most powerful law enforcement agency on the planet. As a member of the Special Crimes Division, it’s your job to investigate food crimes like chicken trafficking, egg dealing, and putting food-powered criminals behind bars.

We’re building off the popular fiction-first game mechanics of Forged in the Dark to bring the action-packed comic series of food crimes, over-the-top characters, and out-of-this-world conspiracies to life.

Can you balance the demands of your job and the needs of your family against the fate of the world?

The foodie dark comedy about cops, crooks, cooks, cannibals, and clairvoyants heads to Kickstarter on Tuesday, October 5th, 2021 at 9am EDT! You can join the Facebook group here!

P.S. The CHEW comics star Asian-American leads! How cool is that?

Running Late + Gen Con Events

The Latest

I just wanted to give you a quick update on the timeline of delivery. We're running about two months behind schedule. There was a recent delay at the manufacturer. The wood blocks were made incorrectly the first time, so they had to be redone.

RiP is expected to be packaged and shipped to the port in Shanghai by the end of the month. DHL will take over the freight at that point and estimates a a 5-6 week travel from Shanghai to Indiana.  Adding a couple weeks for minor delays, and we're still looking at the end of August.

So, if everything goes according to plan, you can expect your copies to arrive in late August or early September. International Backers could see a delay of 2-3 weeks on average, though it varies by carrier.

I'm very sorry for the delay! I really wish I could've got the game to you sooner.  We'll still get it to you with  plenty of time to play a game for Halloween!

In-Person Gen Con 2021

Play Rest in Pieces at Gen Con!

If you're headed to Gen Con this year, there will be a ton of RiP games for you to jump into.  You'll be able to learn how to play the game with me, Brodeur (Writer of the Game Master), or one of our awesome volunteers (Thank you, Rodney and E.B)!

Here's a sneak peak at the events before they go live.

If you're heading to Origins Game Fair in September maybe you could run a few games for a free badge. Shoot me an email at [email protected] if you're interested in running some Rest in Pieces at Origins and I'll hook you up!

Thank you so very much for your support.  Now for some cuteness!

The Digital Sample is Here!

The Latest

With all the PDF related news last update, I thought I'd save the Digital Sample for its very own update. Besides, boats from China take awhile anyway!

Rough Cut Digital Sample

As you can see, the product came out looking fantastic! We had some hiccups with the printer on getting all the black colors to match in the proofing process but you'd never know it if you saw it.

Team Blockade - 48 Blocks (Left), Rest in Pieces - 42 Blocks (Center), Jenga - 54 Blocks (Right)

The tower came out better than I ever could of hoped for. From the get go, it was always going to be somewhat out of my control. I'm no engineer, just a game designer with a feel for what works. I had tried several knockoffs or generic towers in playtesting in search of the best one. The Team Blockade tower became our model. It was the best two-color tower out there when it came to feel and playability. We all compare pulling blocks out to how it feels when playing Jenga, so that was always going to be the ideal feel. Working with Hopes, the block tower now carries the two colors well and maintains a sanded feel very close to a Jenga tower. I think it plays better than any other tower on the market that you could buy with multiple colored blocks. Colored block towers often tend to have blocks that are smoother than Jenga and at times easier to pull out due to the painting and staining.

Stacking Sleeves - Team Blockade (Left), Rest in Pieces (Center), Jenga (Right) - I couldn't quite get the lighting right to do this justice...but you can see how cool it is!

Want to see more? Here's the unboxing video I put together.

The only hiccups with the Digital Sample were with the core game's cards being glossed like the Character Cards (unlike the Expansion Decks) and the Character Cards being trimmed poorly. Both issues have been resolved. The core game's glossy cards were a miscommunication and the Character Cards needed to be seen in person to understand how the dry erase gloss was going to affect the colors. That's why you get physical samples! To catch any lingering mistakes.

Death Plushies

You can imagine how surprised I was to find this Death crowd surfing...

The Death Plushies have arrived and the cuteness is out of control! Be on the lookout for more Death photo mayhem. Check out the Preorder Store if you'd like to pick one up.

What's Next?

Production of Rest in Pieces is scheduled to be completed in early June.  Unfortunately, we got beat to the summer rush of new games at the printer.  That pushes back delivery to backers until probably September. That's a total bummer, and I'm sorry for the delay. I'll keep you posted as I find out more.

Thank you for your support! :D

Off to the Printer

All of the files for Rest in Pieces are now with Hopes Game Manufacturer! I anxiously await the proofs.

Late Additions: The final product now contains a Short Rulebook with an Example of Play to help Narrators better understand how to run the game. Also, a Dry Erase Narrator Card was added to the final product to give them a place to keep their notes (character names, resting places, fave foods, etc). Lastly, the Core Deck and the Instigator Deck both have a card with sample names for deadbeats and places to work. The Core Deck even has a card with sample names for fave foods, in case you just want to pull from lists.

Thank you to everyone who contributed names for the example lists!

BackerKit

I recently added a few of the Young Dracula and their Sleazy Motel Expansion Decks to the Preorder Store on BackerKit. I have just five copies of the early prototype deck that helped to pave the way for future Expansion Decks. I've also added the remaining Core Deck prototypes (from the past couple of years) there for those that would like to have a one of a kind copy of the game and a look at the how far the game has come. :D

WARNING: The Young Dracula expansion is raw and rude! This first crack at the Sleazy Motel was aimed for the Breaking Bad audience.

A few surveys are still outstanding! If you haven't already, please take a minute to update your address there (survey email should be wherever your Kickstarter Email goes). If you backed for a PDF pledge or less, check your surveys, you may still find a compelling perk or free gift worth your time.

Most of you know by now, all pledges received a Free Instigator Expansion Deck or a Discount Code in their survey.  Email me at [email protected] if you need your survey resent or have any questions about BackerKit. There has been some confusion over the "Local Pickup" option. You can find "Local Pickup" in the Country dropbox (like on Address Pages). Weird, I know!

What's Next?

Be on the lookout for your PDF files in March. For those that backed for Digital Art File Access that is also being prepared for release.

The waiting game begins!

Thank you for your support! :D
